By popular request, my currently running kernel is 2.4.18

I highly reccomend running the newest 2.4 kernel. There have been issues with older kernels with ethernet and DRM. The 2.4.18 kernel above works wonderfully for me.
If you have a docking station, and have problems booting with newer kernels (2.4.19, 2.5.x), try compiling in PCI Hotplug support. It worked for me...

One problem that seems to come up is with power management and suspend modes while running on battery. Evidently, if power management shuts off your screen, your keyboard and mouse won't work.

Thanks to Jan Spitalnik (look at the source for his email address) for a quick program that alleviates the freeze problem!
I reworked it a bit and packaged it up nice, and it works great!
You can get The Source, or you can grab A Binary. If you get the source, check out the README file for instructions. If you grab the binary, afer you download it you will have to make it executable (example: chmod 711 mouse_uf) and run it (as root).
This officially solves the last problem I had with this laptop!

If you are installing this machine from scratch, make sure you are using the latest version of your distribution. I reccomend Gentoo, and have had no hardware problems. I have heard random problems with Mandrake and RedHat, and I know first hand that SuSE 8.0 needs to have Xfree86 4.2.0 recompiled to support hardware acceleration of the Radeon Mobility video.
