Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), a research center
specializing in grid computing, is creating a supercomputing
environment using 16 HP rx2600 servers based on the Intel® Itanium® 2 processor running Linux and HP-UX.
"The Itanium® 2-based HP systems exhibit superior
price/performance and efficiently process complicated, data-intensive work
typical of Samsung's Customers. By running HP-UX and Linux simultaneously,
we can use one environment to develop supercomputing software used in our
customers' commercial environments and another for software for our in-house
cluster. With HP's next-generation Itanium 2-based systems, we expect even
better price/performance and agility. Based on our early positive results,
we plan to lay a sound business foundation for the Samsung Group companies
by introducing Itanium 2-based HP systems."
