Historically, Open Source Software were used to realise Internet/Intrane servers, because their growth was following the one of the Net. It's so possible to cover all aspects linked to the Internet, from the Web server (Apache), FTP server (Wu-Ftpd), DNS server (Bind), the E-Mail server (Sendmail or Postfix), the Usenet groups server(INN), the proxy server (IPmasqadm), the firewall (IP-Chains), the Cache server for the Web (Squid), or also the Time server (NTP<! /ulink>) ... RFCs.
